According to 247Sports, Vikings WR Laquon Treadwell has been running with the 1st team during OTAs and exhibiting more confidence than he did through his 1st 2 seasons. The former 1st-round pick has totaled just 21 pro receptions to date and stands a long way from fantasy relevance. But he could secure the #3 WR gig behind Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs. Opting for Treadwell in that spot ahead of newly signed veteran Kendall Wright would allow Minnesota to run Thielen more from the slot, where he has performed well over the past 2 years. Wright, on the other hand, is almost exclusively a slot receiver.
Vikings new OC John DeFelippo isn't making major changes to last year's offense under Pat Shurmur. Both DeFelippo and Shurmur run West Coast systems. “The things you keep the same are formations, for example — what you call formations,” DeFilippo explained. “We’re calling the run game pretty much the exact same. If there was a [similar] pass concept that we’re putting in, we called it what they called it last season. Coach Shurmur got taught by Coach [Andy] Reid, and like the purest West Coast guys. I’ve learned from some of the guys on that tree, as well. So from a philosophical standpoint, there’s very similar things." Between the OC switch and the arrival of QB Kirk Cousins, there have been significant changes to a Vikings offense that ranked 11th in yards and 10th in points last year. Some continuity in offensive scheme should help the transition go more smoothly.
Vikings WR Adam Thielen (back) is active for tonight's NFC Championship game against the Eagles. He's OK to use as you normally would have in fantasy football lineups.
The Vikings list WR Adam Thielen (lower back) as questionable for Sunday's NFC Championship against the Eagles. He got in limited practices on Thursday and Friday, and we've heard nothing to suggest that he's in danger of missing this one. We'll continue to look for updates and will find out Thielen's official status around 5 pm ET on Sunday.
Vikings WR Adam Thielen (lower back) returned to a limited practice on Thursday. We'll get another update tomorrow, but he should be fine for Sunday's NFC Championship against the Eagles.
Vikings WR Adam Thielen missed Wednesday's practice with a lower back injury, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. That's all the info we have for now. Thielen never exited last weekend's game, and there's no reason at this point to believe he's in danger of missing Sunday's NFC Championship against the Eagles. But we'll keep a close eye on him over the next few days.
As expected, Vikings QB Sam Bradford (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Bucs. That left knee continues to give him issues, and there's no concrete timetable for his return. QB Case Keenum gets another start for Minnesota on Sunday after completing just 54% of his passes for 167 scoreless yards in Pittsburgh last week. He’s a significant downgrade for the Vikings’ pass-catchers.
Vikings QB Sam Bradford (knee) is inactive for today’s game against the Steelers. He didn’t look anywhere close to 100% in pregame warmups. We’ll see if he can get ready for Week 3. Bradford’s absence today leaves Case Keenum under center. Keenum arrived in Minnesota this offseason after completing 61% of his passes with 9 TDs and 11 INTs in 10 appearances for the Rams last year. He posted a 69% completion rate, 2 TDs and 0 INTs this preseason. Keenum is a serviceable NFL backup but is still a downgrade for all of Vikings pass-catchers. Expect Minnesota to pound RB Dalvin Cook as much as possible.
Vikings QB Sam Bradford (knee) is a "legitimate game-time decision" for Week 2, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Bradford has no structural damage in that left knee but is dealing with "discomfort," Rapoport adds. The good news is that we'll find out his official status by noon ET today. The knee certainly adds risk to his fantasy value even if he plays, though. We just nudged Bradford and his pass-catchers down the Week 2 rankings.
Adam Thielen operated as the Vikings' slot WR in Sunday's preseason game against the 49ers. Per Pro Football Focus' Nathan Jahnke, Thielen ran 20 routes from the inside during the 1st half. Stefon Diggs, the primary slot man last year, ran 0. WR Laquan Treadwell ran 2. Thielen caught all 5 of his targets for 50 yards vs. the 'Niners. If he sticks in the slot, it figures to raise his volume and catch rate. Diggs would head in the other direction -- but would likely improve on last year's 10.8 yards per catch. This will be a situation to watch closely in Week 1. We just adjusted our projections for both Thielen and Diggs.
The Vikings signed WR Michael Floyd to a 1-year deal worth $1.5 million. He can reach $6 million total with incentives, per ESPN. Floyd completely tanked on the field in 2016 and was cut from the Cardinals after he was arrested in December for DUI. The 27-year-old ended up serving jail time, and it’s quite possible he’ll receive further discipline from the league. Floyd’s also currently under house arrest and won’t be able to join the Vikings until after June minicamps. In Minnesota, he’ll battle Adam Thielen and Laquon Treadwell for snaps behind #1 Stefon Diggs. The Vikings just drafted a pair of WRs, too (Rodney Adams and Stacy Coley).
The Vikings signed WR Adam Thielen to a 4-year, $19.2 million extension. He was a restricted free agent this offseason and set to hit unrestricted free agency next offseason. The new deal is a reward for a breakout 2016 campaign that saw Thielen rack up 69 catches, 967 yards and 5 TDs. Of course, a huge chunk of that production -- 12 catches, 202 yards and 2 TDs -- came in a Week 16 explosion in Green Bay. Thielen reached 70 yards in just 3 of his other 15 games. The contract extension is a sign, though, that Minnesota sees him as a key part of its passing game going forward. Thielen, Stefon Diggs and Laquon Treadwell will battle for standing on the depth chart this summer.
Vikings WR Stefon Diggs (hip) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Bears. He'll be held out after playing at less than 100% for much of the season. WR Laquon Treadwell (ankle) is also doubtful, and WR Charles Johnson (knee) is questionable. WR Adam Thielen and TE Kyle Rudolph should dominate Minnesota's targets.
Vikings WR Stefon Diggs (hip) missed his 2nd straight practice on Thursday. Banged-up for most of the year, Diggs might be held out of Sunday's meaningless finale. His absence would funnel more targets to WR Adam Thielen and TE Kyle Rudolph.
Vikings WR Adam Thielen (neck) put in a full week of practice and isn’t listed on the final injury report. He’s on the WR3 radar for Saturday’s game against the Packers’ league-worst WR defense.
Vikings WR Adam Thielen suffered a neck injury in the 3rd quarter of Sunday's game against the Colts and won't return. He took a massive shot to the head -- so it's at least good news that he didn't sustain a concussion. We'll look for an update on Thielen tomorrow.
Vikings HC Mike Zimmer's status for Thursday night's game against the Cowboys is "uncertain" after he underwent emergency eye surgery on the Wednesday, the team announced. It's certainly not an ideal scenario for a team that's topped 20 points in just 1 of its last 6 games. WR Stefon Diggs and TE Kyle Rudolph should be the only Vikings on your Week 13 radar.
Update: Zimmer will miss the game.
Vikings WR Stefon Diggs (knee) is inactive for today's game against the Lions. Adam Thielen, Cordarrelle Patterson and Laquon Treadwell expected to serve as Vikings' top 3 WRs. Thielen is the best fantasy bet and on the lower-end WR3 radar.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirms that Vikings WR Stefon Diggs (knee) is not expected to play against the Lions today. Rapoport adds that WR Laquon Treadwell is expected to make his 1st start. The rookie has played just 35 snaps this season, catching his only target for 15 yards. We're curious to see what Treadwell does with a bigger role, but he's nothing more than a DFS tournament flier for Week 12. Adam Thielen remains the best bet among Vikings WRs.
