Marquise Goodwin Fantasy Football News 2018

49ers WR Trent Taylor underwent what HC Kyle Shanahan called a "minor" back surgery earlier this offseason. Taylor has been sidelined since but is expected to be ready "at or near the beginning of training camp," per Shanny. Taylor hauled in 43 of 60 targets (71.7%) for 430 yards and 2 TDs as a rookie last year. He faces stiff competition for playing time this season, though, with 2nd-round rookie Dante Pettis joining veterans Pierre Garcon and Marquise Goodwin. We'll see how soon Taylor is able to get back on the field, but he's not worth a pick in fantasy drafts right now.

The 49ers selected Washington WR Dante Pettis with the 44th overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft. He never reached 1,000 yards in 4 college seasons and didn’t jump off the tape to us. But Kyle Shanahan obviously likes him. Pettis was a stud return man at Washington and is considered 1 of the better route runners in this class. He’ll join Pierre Garcon and Marquise Goodwin atop San Francisco’s depth chart.

49ers WR Marquise Goodwin has signed a 3-year, $20.3 million extension. It tacks on to the 1 year remaining on his old deal, locking him up in San Francisco through the 2021 season. It's a well-deserved reward for a guy coming off a career-best 56-962-2 line. Goodwin was particularly good with QB Jimmy Garoppolo, racking up 29 catches for 384 yards and a score in Garoppolo's 5 starts. The contract extension should lock Goodwin into a significant 2018 role, even with the 'Niners likely to add to the WR position this offseason.

49ers WR Marquise Goodwin sustained a concussion in Sunday's finale against the Rams. It shouldn't impact his offseason, but it's worth filing away in case he suffers another. Goodwin was elevated by the arrival of QB Jimmy Garoppolo, racking up 29 catches for 384 yards and a score in Jimmy G's 5 starts.

49ers WR Marquise Goodwin (concussion) is active for today’s game against the Colts. The matchup is right, but Goodwin remains just a fantasy flier.

49ers WR Marquise Goodwin (concussion) is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Colts after a limited week of practice. HC Kyle Shanahan said Friday that he expects Goodwin to play, but he obviously has at least 1 more stage of the protocol to clear. We’ll find out his status by noon ET on Sunday, but Goodwin is no more than a DFS flier if he plays.

49ers WR Marquise Goodwin suffered a concussion in Sunday's game against the Cardinals. He caught 1 of 2 targets for 18 yards before exiting. We'll track his status through the protocol this coming week, but Goodwin isn't much of a fantasy option.

Deep balls to WR Marquise Goodwin have been a regular occurrence early in 49ers training camp, according to insider Cam Inman. QB Brian Hoyer and Goodwin connected for a 60-yarder on Monday. Goodwin has world-class speed (he clocked a 4.27-second 40 time at the Combine) but never emerged as more than a situational deep threat in Buffalo. It sounds like he's the leader in the clubhouse for the #2 WR job in San Francisco, though. More volume would certainly help. Still, it's tough to imagine him emerging as more than a late-round target in best-ball leagues, where his weekly volatility won't hurt.

The 49ers and WR Marquise Goodwin have agreed to a deal, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Goodwin goes just 5'9, 179 pounds and totaled only 49 catches in 4 seasons with the Bills. He boasts sub-4.3 speed, though, and has averaged 15.9 yards per catch. He'll team up with HC Kyle Shanahan, who made the small-but-speedy Taylor Gabriel a fantasy factor in Atlanta over the 2nd half of last season. We wouldn't bet on Goodwin being a significant fantasy asset, but he'll be worth monitoring this summer.

Bills WR Sammy Watkins managed just 1 reception for 10 yards among 4 targets in Sunday's win over the Browns. Tyrod Taylor attempted just 24 throws in the game (plus 1 more from EJ Manuel), but Watkins still saw WR Marquise Goodwin match his target count and TE Charles Clay beat it by 3. Watkins also saw his playing time dip to 63% of the offensive snaps after he topped 90% the week before. He remains in play for a Week 16 battle with Miami, but keep the risk in mind as you weigh Watkins against your other options.

Bills WRs Robert Woods (knee) and WR Percy Harvin (migraines) are out for this weekend’s game against the Raiders. That leaves Marquise Goodwin and Justin Hunter behind Sammy Watkins, who isn’t expected to play a full slate of snaps.

Bills WR Percy Harvin (migraines) is inactive for today’s game against the Jaguars. With Robert Woods also out, Marquise Goodwin and Justin Hunter figure to join Sammy Watkins as Buffalo’s top 3 WRs.

Bills WR Robert Woods (knee) is out for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. He didn't practice all week and has no timetable for return. Percy Harvin and Marquise Goodwin will join Sammy Watkins as Buffalo's top 3 WRs against a tough Jacksonville secondary.

Bills WR Marquise Goodwin (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Patriots. That leaves Justin Hunter and Walter Powell behind Robert Woods. Hunter is on the desperation-start radar after scoring in 2 of his last 3.

Bills WR Robert Woods (foot) is inactive for today’s game against the Dolphins. WRs Justin Hunter and Marquise Goodwin will start for Buffalo but are just fantasy fliers. TE Charles Clay is a good bet to lead the Bills in targets today.

Bills WR Robert Woods (foot) didn't practice all week and is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Dolphins. He won't play, leaving Justin Hunter and Marquise Goodwin as Buffalo's top 2 WRs. Neither can be trusted in fantasy lineups. TE Charles Clay is a good bet to lead the Bills in targets.

Adam Schefter reports that Bills WR Sammy Watkins is expected to visit Dr. Robert Anderson in North Carolina this week to determine if he needs a 2nd surgery on the foot he broke back in the spring. If he does -- which is reportedly what they expect -- Watkins would be done for the season. We'll watch for an update, but Watkins is fine to drop in nearly all redraft leagues if you haven't done so already.

The Bills have placed WR Sammy Watkins on IR with the foot injury that has rendered him all but useless to this point. We don't yet know if this will end his season, as Buffalo doesn't need to decide yet whether to designate him to return. But Watkins can be dropped in most redraft leagues that don't have an IR spot. The Bills added WR Justin Hunter on Friday, but Robert Woods is the 1st option off waivers. Even he brings a fairly low fantasy ceiling, though. This is a situation to try to avoid. Watkins' status pushes Tyrod Taylor to the bottom of QB2 territory as well.

Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) won't play against the Cardinals today, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Considering he's 10 days removed from his last game, we can't consider Watkins a lock to be ready for Week 4. Buffalo's bye isn't until Week 10. WR Marquise Goodwin is expected to start in Watkins' place but isn't a fantasy option. WR Robert Woods and TE Charles Clay are the best bets for targets.
